Would you endure pain every single day, just to bring comfort to others?
On 1 February 2020, in Navsari, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj showed what true selflessness looks like. His schedule was filled with back-to-back personal meetings. Even though he had arrived earlier than expected, time slipped away as countless people waited for his blessings.
One by one, they approached him. And one by one, he gently placed his hand upon each head, offering them blessings and peace. A simple gesture, yet filled with so much warmth and love. This is what those devotees traveled miles to receive.
But in the middle of this, a concerned sadhu couldn’t hold back any longer.
“Swami, doesn’t your arm hurt from doing this so much?” he asked.
His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj’s reply was simple, yet it left everyone speechless.
“Yes, it does. Every day it hurts. Even while I eat, it hurts.”
Shocked by this revelation, the attendant sadhu requested him, “Then, Swami, please just fold your hands in greeting. Don’t put your hand on anyone’s head.”
But Swamishri’s answer revealed the depth of his love.
“That doesn’t change anything.”, said Swamishri. Through this one reply, he revealed the depth of his love for everyone. His selfless love. The love that sees no bounds.
For him, their joy mattered more than his own comfort. Just as a mother bears pain for her child, Swamishri bore his pain for every soul that came before him.
This moment teaches us something profound: selfless love is simply giving. It doesn’t stop at what’s convenient; it keeps going, as far as the heart can stretch. What is given with selfless love always leaves a mark deeper than what is kept for oneself.
If this story touched your heart, share it with others and inspire more people to live with selfless love.
