The truest measure of greatness is humility. This powerful principle was brought to life on May 14th, 2019, during a Diksha ceremony in Surat. The occasion was significant, but what made it truly remarkable was a simple yet profound act of reverence by Mahant Swami Maharaj, offering a lesson in humility that continues to resonate.
During the ceremony, the Santos presented Swamishri with a very unique shawl. This was no ordinary shawl; it was adorned with the images of all the students from the training assembly. As the Santos prepared to drape Swamishri with this special shawl, he immediately stopped them. His concern was pure and genuine. Swamishri gently remarked, “How can I have the images of such devotees at my feet?” His words were filled with deep respect and humility, acknowledging the value and dignity of each individual depicted on the shawl.
Later, when Swamishri received the shawl, he did something extraordinary. He touched the images of each and every devotee and paid his respects. This small yet meaningful gesture went beyond the ceremony itself. It served as a reminder that true leadership is not about elevating oneself but rather about uplifting and honoring others.
This moment in Surat leaves us with a lasting question: Is true leadership really about personal elevation, or is it about elevating others? Mahant Swami Maharaj’s humble act offers a clear answer. As we go about our own lives, perhaps we can reflect on this lesson and ask ourselves, “What small act of recognition and respect will I make today?”
