In a world consumed by desire and distractions, the wisdom of saints like Muktanand Swami shines like a lighthouse for the lost. His poetic verses aren’t just devotional songs—they are roadmaps guiding us back to our inner truth. In this beautiful bhajan, he opens a window into the life of the jivanmukta, the realized soul, and reminds us of the false identities we cling to.
“Anubhavi anandma, Brahmarasna bhogi re…”
The realized soul is steeped in bliss—not the temporary happiness born of material fulfillment, but the profound, unshakeable joy of being united with the Divine. Such a soul may walk among us, still playing its earthly role, but remains untouched by the suffering and sickness of the world. Its mind rests in the eternal, not the ephemeral.
We, on the other hand, constantly engage with the world through the lens of illusion—believing what we see, hear, and learn without questioning its deeper truth. Muktanand warns us:
“Je shikhe je sambhale, triputine tane re…”
Our senses and our mind often trick us into believing that the false is real. The world we chase—built on wealth, recognition, and pleasure—is a grand illusion. It keeps us occupied but spiritually empty. Only when one awakens to this deception can they begin to see the truth.
“Jya lagi jag vistaryo, mrugtrishna pani re…”
The world is a mirage—a desert shimmering with false promises. The wise see through it. They understand that just as a dream dissolves upon waking, so too will this world fade in the presence of divine knowledge. They no longer fall for the glitter of illusion because they’ve recognized it for what it is.
And yet, as Muktanand Swami laments:
“Je vade a jakta chhe, tene koi na jane re…”
The very source of this grand illusion—the Creator, the sustainer of all—we fail to seek. We run after His creations, ignoring the Creator. But those who follow the path laid out by the Guru, those who surrender and live in spiritual discipline, find true peace.
The message is piercing yet gentle: we are asleep in a dream we mistake for reality. We’re so caught up in what our senses feed us that we forget our deeper calling—to know the Self, to merge with the Divine, to live in truth.
Muktanand Swami’s words are not meant to scold but to awaken. They invite us to look within, to question what we take for granted, and to move toward a life of conscious awareness. A life where devotion isn’t just a ritual, but a deep remembrance of who we truly are.
In following the Guru’s path, in seeking the source rather than the shadow, we open ourselves to the bliss that saints speak of—the bliss of freedom, even while living.
May we not waste this rare human life asleep in illusion. May we, like the realized ones, become whole in truth, free in spirit, and eternally at peace.
